SEASONS - With Sarah Kapustin

Baroque meets Tango when we combine Vivaldi’s Venetian 18th century world with Piazzolla’s seductive Latin American dance forms. Piazzolla pays homage to Vivaldi through his subtle quotations of each season. He channels his own rich, Argentinian culture, subsequently reflecting Vivaldi’s seasons from his ‘upside down’ perspective, highlighting the juxtaposition of hemisphere.
The changing seasons are such a visual experience. Both Piazzolla and Vivaldi capture this in their own expressive way. Vivaldi explores detailed imagery; birds chirping, relentless Italian heat, a joyous hunt, and the harsh bite of winter. Through Leonid Desyatnikov’s lush and provocative arrangement, Piazzolla similarly entices us to join his dreamy, dynamic, Hollywood-esque fantasy.
