Hrayr Ter-Sargsyan was born in Armenia, where he studied for seven years in the music school of his hometown. He received an encouragement prize at the National Young Talents Competition in Armenia.
He has lived in the Netherlands for the past eight years. In 2009 he won first prize at the regional Talentenjacht competition and in 2010 he received another encouragement prize from the inaugural Britten violin competition. From 2010 till 2011 he studied at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Enschede with Skye Carman, and from 2011 he studied in ArtEZ Conservatorium in Zwolle with Sarah Kapustin, where he finished his Bachelors degree in February of 2016. He has received masterclasses from Daniel Rowland, Pyotr Tarcholik, Moshe Hammer and Benzion Shamir.
Hrayr plays on a Jaap Bollink violin (1996/1997) and an Albert Nürnberger bow on loan from The Dutch Musical Instruments Foundation.
